Virginie Balabaud Curatrice des Super Short
Après 3 ans en tant que juge des documentaires pour le New York City Indie Film Festival, j’ai eu l’honneur cette année d’être également nommée curatrice de la section Super Short du Festival. Les super short sont des documentaires ou fictions de moins de 10 min. Je conserve néanmoins mon travail de juge auprès du festival pour la section documentaire. J’aimerais retrouver dans les Super Short les mêmes qualités tant techniques que humanistes. Une sensibilité des artistes qui nous présentent chaque année leurs travaux, c’est toujours une nouvelle expérience qui accompagne un film et qui enrichie notre vision du monde.
Je serai présente à New York pour le festival en Juin 2023, des journées intenses et enrichissantes en perspective, entre les visionnages des différents formats de films documentaires et fictions. Je pourrai rencontrer les réalisateurs afin d’échanger autour de leurs motivations cinématographiques.
Je suis particulièrement attiré par des thématiques qui touche directement la psychologie et la sociologie. Le travail journalistique en amont qui permet de donner une réelle profondeur au traitement du sujet. Par ces temps très mouvementés où les évènements se bousculent, cela permet de se poser et de penser une vision critique du monde.
Virginie Balabaud Super short Curator
After 3 years being judge of the documentary section for the New York City Indie Film Festival, I have the honor to be this year also the curator of the Super Short section of the festival. Super shorts are documentaries or Narrative under 10 min. I still judge for the documentary section. I would like to find in the Super short the same technical and human qualities. Every year, artists show us their sensibility through their work, with each movie comes a new experience which improve our vision of the world.
I will be present in New York for the festival in June 2023. I look forward these intense and rich days, watching documentaries and fiction in different formats. I could meet the directors to exchange about their film motivation.
I am particularly found on topics who touch directly the psychology and sociology approach. The journalistic research allows a deeper level of understanding of the topic. In our tormented times, where the events are hustling at a vertiginous speed, those films make a pause and make us see the situation in a critical perspective.
